please give me feedback on my new books page
I have not yet decided that it is “ready for prime-time”, I’m still making tiny adjustments to it, and I need to decide how to add the oh-so-exciting free-vacation-promotion I’m implementing to try to sell more books, but I’m linking you to the page now to try to get your feedback on it.
Please, please, please, take a look at this page and tell me what you think, or that you look at it and don’t think, or whatever comes to mind at all about it. If you’re reading this at lessthanthis.com instead of my LJ, on-page commenting is disabled right now (because something’s broken) so please email me your feedback. On LJ, feel free to comment away. Remember, a single word response is better than none!
The page is here: http://prose.modernevil.com/press.php
The idea is to sell books. Right now, the various pages I have set up just aren’t selling the books, so I need something new. This is my new design. I hope you like it, and more than that, I hope it works.

A funny thing happened to me on the way home from the Christian Christmas concert…
So, I was driving home from the Christian Christmas concert in Glendale when I stopped to pick up a hitchhiker. She was walking East on Dunlap and I picked her up just past Central. When I asked where she was headed, she said 19th Avenue and Mountain View. Which, for those of you not familiar with North Phoenix, is in the totally opposite direction. She immediately went into a story about being offered drinks by a strange man and waking up across town in different clothes, disoriented. I drove her to her destination (which turned out not to be her home, but an intermediary destination which she referred to as “paying her babysitter” and I’m going to call “buying crack”) and discussed Christian music a bit. She took a few minutes “buying crack” and then I drove her in the direction of her “home” – but had to stop at the Shell station for her to pick up a lighter. Except she didn’t have enough money, so I gave her “all” my cash. (Here, where I say “all” what I mean is all. That is, I only had $1 on me at the time, and habitually have no spare change in my car, so she got my “last dollar.”) She argued with the attendant locked inside the Shell station about the cost of a lighter and a Brillo pad and kept coming back to try to get more money, not understanding that when I had showed her my empty wallet it had meant that my wallet was empty, and only falling down and banging her head in her confuzzled state the once. (I have since looked up the connection between Brillo pads and crack, and apparently they are used as filters for smoking crack.) On the ride to the Shell, and then around the corner (almost literally) to her apartment, we discussed that she was actually high on crack and having trouble quitting it and not attending church since the people at Calvary “freaked out” on her, and then she was crying and genuinely asking how I made her cry, she hasn’t cried in a long time and she’s going to try to find a new church and she really wishes quitting crack didn’t make her feel so awful, or that she had someone to turn to. So pray for her, guys, her name is Meredith Anne, and … oh, I forgot to mention she let it slip that her only source of income is prostitution. So, yeah, I dropped her off and came home.
What’s nice is that, considering she’s a crack whore, she didn’t smell bad at all.
Things from pocket notebook
The following is what’s in the spiral notebook I carry in my pocket all the time, as of right now. Most of it is things I intend to do or research or read or whatever. I will try to go through and cross stuff off as it gets done. Most of these have more notes, on paper or in my head, these are just shorthand for my own personal use. Of note, most of these first occurred to me within the last 24 hours.

Thought to verify: pre-civil rights, each of the two parties (Democrats and Republicans) had both liberals and conservatives. The civil rights movement, which seemed to be coming from the Democrats (though they may just have happened to be in power – look that up, too), pushed the conservatives out of the Dems & drew the liberals out of the Reps, in a sort of gerrymandering of beliefs and platforms in reaction to Civil Rights. If this is true, is it the cause/root of the current odd belief that Dem==liberal and Rep==conservative, and that that is how it has ‘always’ been — even though the clearest historical examples do not seem to bear this out?

Research: is there a way to reasonably calculate the “actual” value of a country (specifically the US) –as opposed to GNP/GDP which are calculated annually and have something to do with sales/production, rather than the value of the capital/means-of-production– And then, how would a reasonable valuation of the US compare to the current debt or to projected debt for, say, 2008?
–also, how about: what were the original costs of each piece of US territory (money primarily, but also look at lives, et cetera) and what are those values when adjusted for inflation? That is, what is the raw value of the empty property the gov’t owns?
–and how does that compare to actual valuation of all US property at current market prices?

Art section totally update-alized
I’ve just spent the last several weeks working on the Art section of Modern Evil, making it all nice and pretty and graphical and easy to use. I think I’ve checked everything, but if you wouldn’t mind helping me out and going through everything, I’d appreciate it. Any broken links, bad links, places where the name of a painting doesn’t match from one place to another … anything like that, please let me know. I’m also looking for any feedback on the new layout and interface of the whole thing that you have. Do you like it, do you hate it, are you on dial-up and wish I’d stop putting images on web pages?
All the prices have been updated. Rather than the arbitrary and uneven prices I had before, each price is based on the size of the piece, providing somewhat standardized pricing. If we have previously discussed a specific purchase price for a particular piece, it is still available – the new prices are on a going-forward basis only. Also to keep in mind; all prices are negotiable, just send me an email or give me a call and I’m sure we can work something out.
Another new feature is that framed prints of most of my paintings are now also available at a flat rate of $79.99 through Cafepress. Two of them, ‘best intentions’ and ‘lost’, are available as poster-sized prints for under $40 each.
And now, to work on re-designing the web pages for marketing my books. See you in a few weeks.
