I have been contacted by the operator of http://www.pearlsofwealth.com/ezlaptop/ regarding this page. Since she operates a program that goes by the same name as the program that operated at EZlaptop.com and EZlaptop.net, and because her program is in no way affiliated with EZlaptop.com except by name, she feels that this site, which informs people about the ongoing saga of EZlaptop.com/EZlaptop.net and offers a location for all the people who have been affected by the scam that ran at EZlaptop.com and EZlaptop.net, does not deserve to exist. I disagree.
But, I am more than happy to make it clear that the comments expressed here by me are not intended to be regarding her program at http://www.pearlsofwealth.com/ezlaptop/ – I mean only to rever to the now-defunct program that existed at EZlaptop.com and EZlaptop.net, and the problems it has caused.
I am adding this statment to the top, middle, and bottom of both of my pages regarding EZlaptop.com/EZlaptop.net, as a courtesy to the operator of http://www.pearlsofwealth.com/ezlaptop/ – I do not want there to be any confusion – any negative comments made here are NOT about the program at http://www.pearlsofwealth.com/ezlaptop/

IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY SIGNED UP, DO NOT SIGN UP FOR EZLAPTOP.COM.
I cannot say for sure yet whether they are entirely a scam, so everyone who already has an account (that hasn’t been cancelled yet), please keep clicking those links – when you get to 150, let us know what happens!
I just had my account forcibly closed.
I suspected that I had too many referrers or invalid links or something, because my credits seemed too high, so I emailed ezlaptop.com and asked if there was anything wrong, and if so, would they remove the extra credits? I made it clear that I did not believe myself to have done anything wrong and that I wanted to support their company and maintain a positive relationship and an open account.
Their response was to close my account.
Now, I can’t be sure of what happened (I think someone may have used illegal links or I may have had more than 10 referrals, and that’s what I was emailing to find out), but instead of letting me know WHAT was wrong or trying to resolve it, ezlaptop.com just closed my account.
I tried emailing ezlaptop.com several times, discussing the matter in a rational way, making it clear that while I had a guess as to what might have happened, I certainly didn’t break any of their rules myself. I tried discussing the matter as it relates to promoting a positive customer experience and creating an environment of positive customer service, but ezlaptop.com made it clear they are not interested in their customers’ interests or having a positive relationship with the people who are their source of their income.
Whether or not they ever actually send anyone a laptop, because ezlaptop.com is not interested in you beyond your $5, you should NOT do business with them. We can only teach these companies that treating people fairly is what we want by not giving our money to unfair companies.
ezlaptop.com changed its policies to prevent having to give out laptops: On the website, even right now, it encourages you (even on the Terms of Use page) to try to accumulate credits via referrals to reach the (currently) 150 credit goal faster. In fact, when they estimate how long ezlaptop.com expects it to take for someone to earn enough credits, they say that that goal can only be reached by getting a lot of referral credits. ezlaptop.com recently modified its Terms of Use so that when you reach 150 points and try to get your laptop, any credits earned from referrals beyond the first 10 referrals will be removed from your account and you will no longer have the required credits, if you had more than 10 referrals.
There is no way to know how many referrals you have had until you reach 150 credits and get your account closed for having too many referrals. I emailed to ask how many referrals I had, and had my account closed without even reaching 150 credits. If there was anything else wrong with my account, I don’t know it for sure; ezlaptop.com wouldn’t tell me. They just closed my account.
I have done nothing but try to promote a positive reputation for ezlaptop.com in the past, but they had never done anything wrong to me before. Now they have shown that not only are they uninterested in having a positive relationship with their customers, but they are looking for any chance they can get to close people’s accounts.
I will be emailing this message to everyone who has commented here.

Yes, it’s true, I am sometimes a schmuck.
For instance, right after buying my novel, Zoe linked me to ezlaptop.com, as an option to try to replace my broken laptop for $5.
IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY SIGNED UP, DO NOT SIGN UP FOR EZLAPTOP.COM.
I get hundreds of SPAM every day. Actually, I also click through quite a few of them every day because they are funny or actually offer something I am interested in, usually to find that the links are bad, and no, I can’t get my allergies enlarged or get debt reduction without a prescription. Sigh.
IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY SIGNED UP, DO NOT SIGN UP FOR EZLAPTOP.COM.
So, for a $5 signup fee (this is like buying 5 lottery tickets, right? It’s a gamble) and 1, 2, or 3 emails a week (I opted for three, what the heck), each of which contains a link that must be followed in order to earn ‘credits’ (1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 credits per link), once I ‘earn’ enough ‘credits’ (150 right now, but their TOS says they can change that at any time without notice), they’ll just ship me a free VAIO laptop. Wheee!
IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY SIGNED UP, DO NOT SIGN UP FOR EZLAPTOP.COM.
Now, if they don’t close up shop and run off with my $5 before then, I’ll go ahead and advertise my book through them; their rates are reasonable, and I know people will click through. Anyone else can recommend some ‘captive audience’ ad click-through ‘services’ … preferably those that have already been verified are not scams… that I could advertise Lost and Not Found via? I’d like to get the word out to as many people as possible, when the time comes.
And now, to sleep, for in the morning I must wake early to do some hard labor before a day of retail followed by a little more hard labor. Happy birthday to me!
IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY SIGNED UP, DO NOT SIGN UP FOR EZLAPTOP.COM.
(Seriously, click the banner and gamble your $5. Everyone who signs up from my banner gets me 2 extra ‘credits’. It’ll be like a little mini birthday present for me, that might turn out to be worth a laptop, if they find enough advertisers and you can stomach clicking through their links three times a week.)
I am at 67 left, believe me dont change the URL on the link for emails, you will get caught!

Funny how you all can come on here calling ezlaptop.com a scam and none of you has ever had the 150 required points. As far as I know I trust ezlaptop.com until I know different. It’s not fair to attack a company that did nothing wrong to you. Even if there’s a dispute between it’s programmer and them. He might be just trying to destroy their reputation maliciously because they didn’t pay his inflated bill. I don’t know what’s going on between those two. I do know that Ezlaptop.com has not scammed me. Thank you.

Don’t want to get scammed or have my bank account drained think i’ll stay out of this one. If anyone does get the laptop let me know. Show me some proof. Then i’ll consider. Did anyone notice they never mention what kind of laptop you’ll get? It’ll probably be one of those kids meals from KFC!!!

Well, since they only accept payments via PayPal, and PayPal only accepts transactions where both parties agree, ezlaptop.com can’t take more than what you give them (ie: $5). And the main page of the site says the laptop is a “Sony Vaio Laptop, 60GB Hard Drive, 2.8Ghz, 512MB RAM,

Wow I just signed up earlier in the day and now I stumble upon this little site….I hope whoever gets the 150 credits….gets the laptop also so I guess I will try to also keep everyone posted on this little investment. Hopefully we will all be paid off for our risk…if not F it, it’s only 5 dollars.

I’m at 48 points. What’s 5 bux? If it doesn’t pan out, it was a low-risk investment. I opened up a special email account for only the EZLaptop emails and haven’t gotten any additional spam. So that proves to me they aren’t selling addresses. Maybe we are all the first ones to test out advertising in this manner, since spam is becoming slowly illegal. So who knows! I look forward to seeing someone get a laptop!!

I’m at 30 points, but ever since the 48hr shut down I haven’t received one ad. Does anyone else have this problem? Also I’ve only been getting 1-2 points each email, any idea on how to get more per ad?

I have been looking around the internet and still have found nothing to indicate that anyone has received a laptop. Only that if you get more than ten credits by referal then your account is closed down. BUT you don’t know if you have more than ten referals until after the 150 points have been reached

I haven’t used or tried to get any referrels simply because of that rule. We’ll see if just checking emails works.

They claimed that they will send out emails 3 times a week (that’s the option I chose) but till now I have only receive 2 emails. I think it might take at least 1 year to get the laptop. And by that time, the laptop will be outdated.

I signed up about 4 weeks ago and have about 21 points now, have got serveral emails since the 48 hour shut down. Hope to get 150 within the next 6 months. You should know how many points you get from referals if you watch your points. And when you get close on referals just take all your referal addresses offline.

There is a website, http://www.ezlaptop.com which promises a new laptop if you accept their 3 times a week advertising emails. Unfortunately they have never answered my emails about their program. The web developers, who’s link is at the bottom right corner of their home page, have not been paid. I tracked down another site, http://www.ezlaptops.com, that was virtually copy of this one, to a phone number in Hermosa Beach, California and called the guy. Was he surprisd! He started going on about how the way he set it up was very poor and he was having lots of trouble paying every one back, etc. Iasked him if he had taken down his website then. He said yes but when I got off the phone I went straight to it and there it was. I day later it was down as listed for sale (the domain). I think I caught him unexpectedly and he skeddadled. I didn’t callt he Hermosa Beach plice because I myelf didn’t lose any money (never sent the $5.00).
However, ezlaptop.com is not so easy to get to. I searched for their domain through http://www.allwhois.com and found they were registered by GoDaddy.com through Domains by Proxy. I called Domains by Proxy and they would give no direct contact info. I suspect it is a scam but don’t know how to proceed farther.
Anyone able to help with this?
Question: can spamcop deal with these kinds of (probably) scams?
Steve

I am at 97 points and counting, i’m sure people are ahead of me but we’ll see.. it’d be nice to get a laptop. I also noticed that the “3 ads” a week isn’t always three ads. They’re also not always worth 2 pts.. some are 1 so either there’s a rhyme behind this or ezlaptop is trying to drag this out. I sent an email to the noreply email address and got a response, unfortunately my machine died and i lost the email. I asked how you could possibly get the required points in the time they estimated. The guy said he assumes that you’ll have sponsored people so.. take what you will out of that.

Teel, you posted the same exact message September of last year. I’m not sure about this referral thing since i have had no referrals. Not even one. I actually don’t want any and will try to get to 150 by ads alone and see what happens. If your account got closed because you had more than 10 referrals that would seem a bit daft to me. You would think they’d want more business not less, unless they don’t want anyone to get to 150 that fast, because then they will see quickly if a laptop is forthcomng. So we’ll see..

he post you refer to dated in September was presumably changed last night when he got the new information, and wanted to make sure everyone got the word about his experiences. As he references in his post, until now there was no bad experiences with ezlaptop, and no reason to post against signing up. He presumably left the date the same so as to make sure anyone new coming to the topic would see his warning first thing.
I can definitely see where there would have been confusion, but no, he did not post the same thing back in September, as the events he refers to only happened on February 11th of 2004.

Maybe the free laptop goes to the owner of easylaptop.com $5 X 10,000(signups) = $50,000 minus expenses. I could buy a nice laptop with say around $40,000

I still say it’s a scam. On this particular matter I would love to be proven wrong, though.

Please Teel, don’t try to fool people here. You probably didn’t get your account closed for gaining to many referrals, but you got your account closed for STEALING credits that weren’t ever sent to you and put those credits into your account.
I did the same thing, and I didn’t put up as much fuss as you. I know what I did was wrong, and asked if I could start up another account honesty, and they let me.
It states right in their agreement (as they showed me) that you can’t do what you and I did to our accounts.
I will admit, I honestly didn’t read the rules, but now I know I should have. And you should have too.
Please stop telling your lies and know that stealing credits was wrong.
