Yes, Yes, I love Apple Computers

I thought about putting this in The Pit of Geek, but between worrying about pissing off PC-centric geeks and the fact that this isn’t much news, I decided to put it here.

The following are quotes from audible.com. (Click “What I need”.) They describe what you need to use the product they offer (it’s like books and magazines and newspapers “on tape” or “on CD”, except it’s all online).

To listen to Audible programs on your PC, you will need:

  • Pentium. (or compatible) 200Mhz or higher
  • Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000 or Windows XP
  • 32 MB of RAM
  • Audio card and speakers
  • VGA graphics card or compatible video graphics adapter at 256 color or higher
  • Approximately 25 MB of hard disk space for full installation and content files
  • 28.8 kbps or higher modem (56 kbps or alternate method of Highspeed broadband Internet connection recommended)
  • Internet and email access

    Oh yeah, and …

To listen to Audible programs on your Macintosh you will need:

  • Mac OS X
  • iTunes3 or above

I assume they’re forgetting the “internet access” part of their service here, but otherwise their recommendations are safe. If your computer qualifies to run OS X, it’s better than the PC they’re looking for, except you don’t have to think about it. You know what OS you’re running.

Oh, and while you’re at it, audible.com is offering $100 off an iPod with a 12-month audible.com membership through tomorrow, Friday, August 15th, 2003. If you were looking for an excuse to buy an iPod, have the cash, and like listening to books/magazines/newspapers, there you go.
