A new symbol for New York

I have sent this letter so far to the New York Times, NY Post, Chicago Tribune, Arizona Republic, Arcosanti, and I am working it into a fax I will be sending to Mayor Giuliani (who is not receiving emails at this time). I posted it in the forum, and welcome your suggestions for other places to send it, as well as your responses to the idea itself. The letter follows:

The World Trade Center towers were a defining symbol for New York, not just because they dominated the skyline, but because of what they represented. I believe that the towers need to be replaced, not just with a memorial or park, but with a new symbol for the strength and courage and freedom that not just the citizens of New York City, but all the citizens of America can look up to and know that we are not defeated.

Thinking of this, I remembered the idea of the Hyper Building suggested by Paolo Solari. Imagine a structure rising 1000 meters into the sky, massive and sturdy enough to withstand even the greatest blow any terrorist could throw at it. A true symbol of Americans’ strength and perseverance even in the face of terrible adversity. Paolo Solari’s original proposal for a Hyper Building can be found online at: http://www.arcosanti.org/arcology/hb/index.html, and I am certain that it can be adapted to become the new symbol for America’s forthcoming triumph over terrorism.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for standing tall in the face of terrorism.
