It’s like winning the lottery, only with more explosions!

I win the “LG makes exploding batteries” lottery!

The affected batteries could overheat, posing a fire hazard to consumers. Apple has received six consumer reports of these batteries overheating. If you have a recalled battery, please stop using it and order a replacement battery immediately. Once you have removed the battery, plug in the AC adapter to power the computer. If you must temporarily use your computer with the battery, do not leave it unattended and check for signs of overheating.

My new battery has already been requested; “The request for your battery will be processed shortly. Apple will ship you a battery as soon as possible after receiving your replacement order. Shipping time may vary due to battery availability.” I’m uhhh… I’m gonna tempt fate and just keep using my computer normally.

Yeah, yeah, they didn’t say exploding, but … a year or two back Apple had to recall some PowerBook batteries that WERE exploding from overheating. I wonder how much a recall like this costs Apple, considering each battery is priced over $100. Maybe LG foots the bill, and recycles the batteries (or battery components) that aren’t actually a danger.

And then there were books

I now have a library card, and three volumes of Bukowski, because they didn’t have the books on C that I wanted to read on hand.

The library is very different. Most frustrating thing so far is … the science fiction is sorted in with all the rest of the fiction, which appears to have significantly fewer books than I recall. Perhaps they spread them out to the different branches, and I shall have to do a lot of ILL.

We shall see.

way, way, way, way, way too many things on my plate

(Note: the following is adapted from an email I sent a friend on Tuesday, but I felt like it expressed well where I’m at, and where I’m headed for a bit.)

I seem to be getting to that point of “too many things on my plate” where I need to stop everything, step back, and get things in order. There seem to be a few different levels of trying to do too much that I find myself in.

Well, actually there’s the “trying to do only as much as is reasonable” thing – I tried that for a while, but since I never seem to be able to do everything I plan to do, that’s just disappointing. Not stressful at all, very relaxed, doesn’t take much, if any, effort, but the results are … only reasonable. Not great.

Then there’s “a few too many things” which is fine, almost stress-free, since it has that natural “it’s okay if I don’t do everything” built into it, and then I get a very reasonable amount of things done. Well, reasonable for people who aren’t Teel. I feel like I could do better than this when I work at this level.

blogthing silliness – What are the keys to your heart?

I strongly disagree with one of these. Can you guess which one?

The Keys to Your Heart

You are attracted to those who are unbridled, untrammeled, and free.
In love, you feel the most alive when things are straight-forward, and you’re told that you’re loved.
You’d like to your lover to think you are stylish and alluring.
You would be forced to break up with someone who was ruthless, cold-blooded, and sarcastic.
Your ideal relationship is open. Both of you can talk about everything… no secrets.
Your risk of cheating is zero. You care about society and morality. You would never break a commitment.
You think of marriage pessimistically. You don’t think happy marriages exist anymore.
In this moment, you think of love as something you thirst for. You’ll do anything for love, but you won’t fall for it easily.

Amanda update – anyone have a reunion.com account?

From my Amanda page, the latest update on the search:

5/18/2005, 08:49: Still no one from myspace says they recognize Amanda. But last night I did new searches on classmates.com and reunion.com for Amanda King, and found this profile (login required to see it at all), which has her name, Oregon as her state, and her birthdate. Now, they want $36 for a year membership, minimum, to view the other details of the profile and/or to email her – it’s possible that I’d pay the $36 and get a dead/out-of-date email address as my only result, so I’m asking everyone whether they have a reunion.com account they could use to look this up for me. I’ll update here as new information comes in.

So. Do you, or does anyone you know, have a paid account at reunion.com that you/they might be willing to use to get me the additional information from that profile and/or send an email on my behalf (or just get the email address to me, if that’s possible)? If I don’t hear from anyone before my next paycheck, I’ll probably do the stupid thing and pay for the reunion.com account myself.
