What version was that?

At the beginning of the call, she said she was using version 20 of our software, and described a problem unique to v20. I answered her question and resolved that issue for her. Then she said she was having a problem with the macro list in a particular part of the software.

I tried to get her to tell me what the problem was by dexcribing what she was seeing on the screen, but the more she described what she was seeing, the more it became clear that she was not looking at the same peice of software I was. After a while, it seemed like she had never even used out software. Then I worked out that she was just doing a very bad job of describing an old version of our software. In v18, that part of the software was radically different. The third time I asked her, she admitted that she was in front of a computer using v18, and then promptly went to the computer running v20, where she saw that there was not actually a problem.

What the heck?

Another little get together

I’m thinking of having another little get together. Since I know who the 12 people who know where I live are, I feel confident that I can put an invite on my site and no one I don’t want to attend will be able to. Plus, everyone I do want to attend will see the invite. Ah, a small circle of friends and family who all care enough to check my website regularly.

Well, you’re all welcome to join me at my home for a little friendly game-playing, Saturday Feb. 2nd, 2002. Hey. I just noticed that that’s 02/02/2002. Neat. Anyway, the time will be from around 6 until . . . I don’t know. Last time we finished playing around 9, but since this is a Saturday night some of you may be able to stay later or want to go out afterwards. Maybe we could plan on going down to Have a Nice Day Cafe or something. I encourage everyone to bring a dessert, though if you’re having trouble coming up with something at the last minute I’m sure everyone would understand.

Last time was a lot of fun, and I hope we can all have a good time this Groundhog day, too. If you weren’t at the last one and you’d like to join us, just give me a call or email me or leave a comment here, and we’ll make space for you. Actually, everyone should RSVP, so I can try to figure out how to seat everyone. I may have to set up two different game rooms if too many people show up.

I got a couple of new games, Monopoly and Clue, in addition to Cranium, Scrabble, and Lunch Money. If you have another party game you’d like to play, like Apples to Apples or Outburst, go ahead and bring it along.

So, I think that’s about it. I suppose if you don’t know where I live and would like to attend you can contact me and we’ll see if I want to work something out. Otherwise, it’s a Dessert/Game Night with a little of “Look at the crazy new iMac” thrown in for good measure, Groundhog Day, 2002. Yep.

The end of the domain of the monkeys

In a couple of weeks, unless I come up with a good reason not to and $35, I’m going to let my ownership of the monkeymonkeymonkeymonkeymonkeymonkeymonkeymonkey.com domain. I have owned it for nearly two years and never done anything with it, and now it just points to a location on the Modern Evil domain, anyway. I guess I always thought I would find a good use for it, or get my ideas down faster, but if I haven’t used it at all in two years, I probably won’t be using it anytime soon. Oh, and I doubt that it’ll become the next hot property on the web. I’m sure if I decide I want to use it again, I won’t have any trouble getting it back.

I’ve got harrassing Cox down to a science

I am so good at calling Cox Communications to ask them if the full Cox High Speed internet access is available at my address yet that I just did it in under three minutes. From dialing to yet another apology and a promise in about 150 seconds. This guy said “no later than the end of March” with syncs pretty well with the last guy, who said “maybe Spring 2002 at the earliest”. Hopefully, since I have my own cable modem and networking equipment they’ll just let me hook myself up when the time comes & I can avoid that nasty installation fee & having to take of work to meet with a Cox employee.

Actually, I think I’ll plug everything together when my new Mac comes, and then as soon as the service is available, I’ll be online, right?

Hey! Look at that!

Like, I was so wowed over by the new iMac‘s other features that I didn’t notice mixed in with the other (mostly free anyway) software that comes pre-loaded is a full version of Quicken 2002 Deluxe! I’ve been putting off buying that for a few months now due to the $65 price tag for an upgrade to a program that’s been working pretty well for me on its own (I currently use Quicken 2001 Deluxe on my PowerBook). Now I don’t have to think twice about it, because it’s already installed on the new one! Yay!

How long until the end of the month again?
