It gets worse

I guess someone bothered to look at the open ports on the server today, because the IT manager came over and asked me to uninstall MSN Messenger. This is extra fun, because uninstalling MSN messanger disables MSN Explorer, and as I may have mentioned here before, there is no way to get one’s Favorites out of MSN Explorer once it is disabled. Theoretically, if I log into MSN Explorer from any machine in the world, I’ll have access to those favorites, and thus the sites I visit every day, but until such a time, I am now working from memory again. Clearly this is a combined failure of MSN Exploer being able to export its favorites, and MSN Messenger not being able to limit incoming viruses enough, such that our IT dept. has determined it is a major risk to network security.

This is on top of the new bug I found in my coding for Modern Evil, which caused the server to not understand certain entries’ posted dates, and pushing them out of “most recent” qualifications, even if they had been written just minutes before. I’ve got about halfway through fixing this, and it will probably take me at least another hour once I get home, which is where I am going now, but I’ve been running into a few upsetting problems today.

Plus, in the midst of fixing the problem, one of the posts that popped up is a post from my mother saying she thinks I censored her. As it is, it was a glitch, not a censor, and if she’d perhaps emailed or called me instead of posting another post on a site that clearly wasn’t updating properly, I might have had this fixed much sooner. What is it about my crazy family that makes them so crazy all the time? If you have a problem, why can’t you just say something directly to the person you believe is causing the problem? Why speculate publicly about something you haven’t even taken the time to try to address privately first? I don’t get it. I’m going home.

This week has been crazy.

This week has been crazy. Because two of our guys are out of town (on business, training the USDA to use our software), I have had to be at work at 5AM Monday through today. This is only an hour earlier than my normal start time of 6AM, but I tell you it makes a world of difference. I am much more exahusted, much earlier in the day, it seems. Going to be at 10 or 11 only affords me 5 or 6 hours of sleep, and waking up a few minutes before 4AM every day is getting harder and harder. I think I’ll try to keep waking up early, though. I’ve always liked having a little extra time in the mornings. I don’t know how well that’ll work out, since I seem to be getting tired around 9, which just seems too, too early to be going to bed.

Fuck. Work is getting fucking nuts right now. I can’t even remember what I was trying to type. Fuck.

Novel update – 3.1.1.0

Well, I got about 7 more pages done today, so I’m at about 22 pages, but that still puts me pretty far behind where I “should be”, if I were spreading my writing out evenly over every day in the month. I really need to be able to sit down for MORE than just a couple of hours at a time to make any progress on this. I keep watching TV, though. Or sleeping. Last night I was so tired I wrote about 1/2 a page and went to sleep around 5. (I’m a little extra tired a little extra early this week because I have to arrive at work an hour early M-Th this week. That’s right, I have to be at work and on the phone at 5AM. Hooray!) So I just crashed last night & didn’t get ANY work done.

The text, when I am sitting at the typewriter, not distracted by the rest of the world, seems to be flowing out of me pretty easily though, which is good. And it doesn’t seem too much like the “Crap” that has stopped some other people from writing altogether, so hopefully when I get through this month I’ll have something entertaining to share. So far, it’s very post-modern. I think I’ll like it. I can’t really say whether or not you will. We’ll see.

Going hoarse

I am becoming rapidly hoarse from having to raise my voice at customers who don’t listen all day. Like, they are hard of hearing or they have bad phones, or they have a lot of background noise, or they’re just bad listeners, but about one in three customers today (If it was every customer, I’d get my phone checked) requires me to raise my voice and repeat everything I say several times. I’m so glad that I get to go home now. I’ve been up far, far too long.

Luckily, typing this afternoon won’t make me any more hoarse.
