Updated Resume 10-14-2002

After building a resume at monster.com, I used what I built there, and qualifications asked for in the description of a job I know I can do that I saw there, to re-build my resume. The added detail in the Qualifications section and the clarifications in individual jobs (esp. MicroAge) didn’t leave room on one page for references, which some people have said I shouldn’t use anyway, so I removed them. Your feedback is still welcome, and I’m still looking for work, so if you hear of anything or have any suggestions, let me know.

  1. From what I have read, the references can be either at the bottom of your one page resume or on a seperate page – most employers will not frown at either. The cover page should also be one page and should leave enough room at the bottom for your physical signature (unless of course you’re e-mailing it).

I’m really interesting in knowing what you are using for your search criteria, that you come up with jobs for Iain.

  3. Much cleaner looking resume, also the cover letter is almost, if not more important than you resume it self, since people will read that before they read your resume.

  5. Re: cover letter

I’ve just begun to worry about that. I’ve never even SEEN a cover letter. There aren’t any templates for cover letters. What’s a cover letter all about? One page? That can be a lot of words. Any help here would be appreciated.

  7. A coverletter is about a paragraph, mabye 2 that says why you are interested in the position, why they should read your resume, and why they need to hire you. Its basically set like this:

    Dear or To Whom It:

My name is and I say your job listed at . I have this much experiance and belive I can be of assistance to your company because . Thank you for your time and I hope we can meet to discuss any further details you may require.

    Sincierly:

  9. Yes. I think you should just copy and paste what Zoe wrote, that pretty much sums you up.

Did I not send a copy of my cover letter for the ASU job I tried for? A cover letter is your chance to be a warm, thinking human being with a personality rather than a cold outline of skills and job experience.

    I like tuna.

  11. Now that I go back and look at it, yes, you did send me a cover letter. Which is so long and boring that I doubt whoever was doing the hiring read the whole thing. Still, I will examine it and compare/contrast it with Zoe’s in my head.

Also, it’s interesting how you weave together multiple conbversations here by mentioning tuna. I also like tuna. I think I’ll go eat something else.

  13. Yeah, my initial draft was almost four pages long. I trimmed and trimmed, and probably need to trim about a third to a half of what is there. It’s just hard to do when I want to get certain points across. A lot of it will be covered in the interview itself, but the trick is getting TO the interview.
