Numb vs. stressed

Today was my second day of classes, which meant that today I found out whether I would be able to register for both classes or only one, and what art supplies I would have to buy just to take the classes. It also meant that i had to scramble to try to get all the art supplies before Drawing class tomorrow, despite my lack of transportation and the bulk of the materials required. So tonight after class I found an open, local art supply store (Wet Paint on Forest just North of University) and managed to get all of my art supplies for the low, low price of $303.58. I had to split it between two cards because of recent overspending and poor choice of credit cards for certain transactions. When I came home freaked out about spending so much money, I opened up quicken and started playing around. Assuming that the rent payment that I plan to make Saturday or Sunday doesn’t clear before Friday (not unreasonable, considering how long they’ve taken to clear rent checks in previous months (not less than 5 days past the first)), I won’t even have to activate my overdraft protection. If next month’s rent payment doesn’t clear until at least the 4th, I will have plenty of leeway to apy all outstanding debts without going below zero or above the credit limits of any of my accounts at all, accoring to currently understood debts and incomes. If I get bonuses every month (expected, to a certain degree) I will be able to do things like spend a little more on the vacation I will be taking in Hawaii next month (airfare and hotel covered by a prize package, food and incidentals covered by me and Angela) and pre-pay on some of my accounts sooner.

Anyway, I came home from class and from shopping and was feeling pretty stressed out and awful (worse, considering the near-migraine I had right before leaving work (subdued by a few appropriate pills)) and realized that I still had 5 alcoholic malt beverages (approx. 5% alcohol by volume, each) in my refrigerator. I started with two twisted teas, and then by the time I was halfway though the Captain Morgan Gold that followed, I finished finessing my accounts into a reasonable balance and didn’t feel as bad. I’ve had the DNA Incredi-blu and part of a regular DNA since then, and I’m somewhere past a buzz now. I’ll be going to bed soon, and we’ll see how I feel in the morning. Right now I mostly feel numb. Not worried about money, and whether that’s because of the alcohol or because I made some graphs look like I would have enough money for a while, I don’t know.

  1. Where can I get Orange Crush around here? Ralph’s was the last place I saw it. What about the oh-so-soothing Peach Crush (my favorite)? You may be dead-on with this one. I’ll add that to my grocery list.

    Bread
    Tortillas
    Toothpaste
    Orange Crush
    Cookies

(I just added cookies, which also may be helpful.)

  3. Last time I bought Orange Crush was at Fry’s Electronics, from that cooler they have near the checkout. They had Grape too, but no Peach.

  5. Now I’m thinking Orange Crush may be a new sponsor; I was walking to lunch to have some of the new and delicious Jack In The Box Taquitos, available now at all fine Jack In The Box locations, and I saw an 18-wheeler go by, orange from top-to-bottom and emblazoned with the Orange Crush logo. I was unable to stop the driver and secure a case of Orange Crush, unfortunately.

What good is Crush without Peach Crush? I mean, Orange Crush, my spine, Strawberry Crush, all well and good. Peach Crush is the absolute best, though.

  7. Once again, Iain, and not even on your own site, you’ve again lowered the respect I have for all humans. No one should have so much free time to create that site. No one.

  9. First off, that’s not a particularly involved site to make. I could probably have thrown that together in an afternoon, if I cared to.

Second, he’s wrong. Peach Crush does still exist, sort of. I called the company that produces the entire line of Crush syrups, and they advised that they do still manufacture the Peach Crush syrup. They distribute the syrups to local bottling companies all over America (and Canada, for some products) according to the requests of the bottling companies. Our local crush bottler is Kalil Bottling, out of Tuscon, and the only Crush they bottle is Strawberry. They don’t even bottle Orange Crush anymore, since they got Sunkist. The local bottlers in the area that guy went to appear to also have stopped bottling Peach Crush. (Note: When I say bottling, that includes putting soda in cans.)

So, where in the US is Peach Crush bottled or distributed? They didn’t say. Just not within 150 miles of Tempe. Here’s an interesting thing; there are way more flavours of Crush than I expected (this partial list is of Kosher varieties via kashrut.com):

    Diet Orange
    Pink Grapefruit
    Cherry
    Orange
    Diet Orange
    Pineapple
    Tropical Punch
    Peach
    Grape
    Strawberry
    Cream Soda
    Berry Blast
    Red Cream Soda
    Diet Red Cream Soda
    White Cream Soda
    Diet Red Cream Soda
    Lime
    Diet Lime
    Red Licorice
    Pink Grapefruit Sparking

Also in my research I learned that Chocolate Crush used to be pretty popular. I’d really like to have tried that one.

  13. I’m here to say, Peach Crush was the ultimate beverage! Nehi Peach cannot stand in its presence. It is not even worthy to unlace its sandals (Biblical reference). I’m glad to have found fellow Peach Crush-lovers. As far as I can tell, the product is no more. 🙁 If you need moral support, proceed to the Peach Crush Memorial webpage:

Peach Crush is dead, LONG LIVE PEACH CRUSH!

  15. That reminds me, the Gold Field Ghost Town outside Apache Junction had Strawberry and Grape Crush, as well as your standard Orange variety. If I hadn’t just bought a tall iced coffee, I would have been all over the grape stuff. Mmmmm stuff…

  17. At the diamond j’s there? I used to be semi-related to the proprietier of nu-products, then Black horse trading post. And lived there for a short time.. Ahhh BCC… do I miss it? Not at all. The best part was fishing for javalina off the roof of the trailer with carrots tied to string….

  19. The Crush’s were actually inside the old-west “authentic” Starbucks-ish coffee house they had along their main thoroughfare, where they hold the fake gunfights. While were buying our coffee, two women came in and asked us to move a little to the right so that they didn’t accidentaly fall on us when they got shot and fell over dead in a minute or two.

Fishing for javelina actually sounds somewhat entertaining. More than “traditional” fishing, anyway. They should have stuff like that in Everquest.

  21. Okay, I found this thread via Google because I was looking for some Peach Crush info. Behold, I have found a bottler for Peach Crush and have their phone number so we can find out where they have distribution. From there, we might be able to mail-order some of the stuff! Okay, so here’s the info I received from Cadbury:

Peach Crush is available in the area surrounding Temple, TX as the product is produced by the DPSU Bottling Group in Temple. You may reach this bottler by phone at 254-773-3376.

  23. Well, I didn’t even realize the Peach Crush memorial webpage had survived. At any rate, it’s good to see some fellow peach crush lovers out there.

But, the “memorial” part may have been too soon. While wandering a grocery store in Atlanta, I found several bottles of Peach Crush!

I stocked up on it for several weeks, though now there are no more bottles at this grocery store, only an empty space on the shelf with the word “Peach Crush 0.89” underneath.

    I hope they restock.

  25. Hello, fellow Peach Crush lovers. I, too, came across Peach Crush while visiting friends in Atlanta and cleaned out the Krogers grocery store. (I’m still holding on to the last 2 bottles because I don’t know when I’ll get back -I live in North Carolina.)

I called the bottler in Atlanta, but they told me that they couldn’t mail any to me because they couldn’t ship across state lines. (Okay, is this Smokey and the Bandit and I’m trying to order Coors?)

I also tried to call Krogers to see if they’d sell and mail, but no dice.

When I called Cadbury, I was told that there were only 3 major areas in the US that bottled Peach Crush, and Atlanta is one of them because of the whole peach theme.
