Harry Potter, anyone? – I will be in town Friday

Looks like I’m going to be in Phoenix on Friday to see Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on the largest screen I can get admission to. (ie: hopefully the Cine Capri) If you would like to join me for the film, or otherwise make plans to see me, or if you’d like me to come sell you some art or books or furniture or something, please let me know and we can make plans.

Nothing here is set in stone yet.

More furniture

Okay. Here’s three shots of one table and one shot of another one.

Coffee Table 2Side Table

The table with three shots has manzanita legs (which are wholly my work, selection, and design) and a juniper top (which will, soon, have a ~2’x~3′ glass top atop it, forming a reasonably sized surface, and which was selected, worked, and designed by my father). It is approximately 22 inches tall. The other table is smaller, and entirely worked and designed by me. While the legs are diamond willow, I … I’m not sure what the name for the reclaimed, quite well aged wood I used is. I just know it looks reasonably interesting. It is 24 inches tall.

If you have interest in these, or furniture of this style, please contact me for pricing information or to consult on special requests.

Also, if you think they’re hideously ugly (or quite the opposite), please comment below.

A couple more changes

Okay. So.

Spent around 5 hours today upgrading and customizing softwares on Modern Evil. Now it can (theoretically) read RSS 0.9x, 1.0, 2.0 and (extra theoretical) Atom feeds. And though no one noticed that the “change” I made to the site before was that all “external” sites were removed from the aggregation system, I have made the “external” sites more obvious with the new changes, though I have added a couple of them back in.

Ooh, yeah, and I can read LiveJournal sites now.

So, there’s that.

So now the “scope” of Modern Evil is the things actually hosted on modernevil.com, plus the blogs/livejournals of three of my friends: Iain, Zoe, and Marie. Soon I will be removing certain blogs/sections from Modern Evil, trying to focus its scope even further. Do not fear, I will make every effort to contact anyone whose blog I plan to remove before taking any action, and anyone who posts in a section I am removing, likewise.

And then I’ll likely also be removing some of the “users” able to log in and post on Modern Evil. You know, the people who never post.

So… we’ll see how this goes.

No review, but I liked Troy.

Blah blah blah.

Yes, it was long, but not as long as the Illiad (which I’ve never read, but now sortof want to). Yes there are long periods of the film where no one gets killed. Yes, Brad Pitt is not the most obviously, physically emotive actor you’ve seen – but do you want to understand the character he is portraying, or are you just hoping the camera will angle a little lower, cutting his face from the shot and revealing his … dangly bits? Have you seen Meet Joe Black? Have you seen 12 Monkeys? Brad Pitt has range, and skill, and can play more than one character. The way he is performing here is intentional.

So, if Brad Pitt’s performance is clearly intentional, then it is your job, as the audience, to read the layers of the character he is portraying. So he isn’t telegraphing everything, isn’t playing a clean-cut good or evil character, isn’t following an obvious path or motivation… that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to him. Watch it again. What does he want in this scene? What has changed from the prior one? Engage your mind. This isn’t really just a popcorn action movie, all action, no character, no plot.

Anyway, I’m tired. I’m gonna go lay down. Night.
