The internet is dead! Long live the internet!

So I finally got it worked out with Sprint today that my account is being disconnected (I have not had internet access since the end of June) now, and I will NOT be charged an early termination fee. Theoretically, they will let me know when they begin offering service that works despite the presence of trees. I will also pay close attention to Cox@Home’s presence in my neighborhood, because it uses the hardware I already own @ a lower cost than Sprint BBD. Anyway, no internet access at home for a while yet to come, but maybe I can pretend that an antique typewriter is the internet.

Silly microwaves not going through trees.

Would you believe that the only thing standing between me and the internet is a couple of trees? Did you know that there was a relationship between the physical location of trees and my ability to access the internet from home? Well, as it turns out, the pecan tree in the neighbor’s yard (and theoretically another tree a couple of blocks away as well) prevents me from getting internet access at my new house. So, I’m looking into other options and future technologies, but it looks like I won’t be having internet access at home any time soon.

Oh, and because the trees are breaking my contract, Sprint wants to charge me $161 to not give me internet access for the next year. So, I’m working on speaking to various people with Sprint about that. We’ll see what happens. Maybe it will lead to some sort of breakdown.

Who needs stinking internet access?

So, it looks like what I’m going to do is just not have internet access at my new home until July 28th, and Iain and Woody WILL have internet access until that time. This will be the most efficient way to wade through Sprint BBD’s shit, and will be of financial benefit to Iain.

I can certainly live without internet access in my home for a few weeks. I have it here at work. That just means that you’ll end up with less entries here for the month of July. Fewer late-night ramblings. Maybe that’ll let me get even MORE done in the physical world. Maybe it will drive me mad. It is so hard sometimes to know what effect something will have on someone when it is taken away.

I’m just beginning to feel the effects of her moving to Spain. This is certainly the time to take something else that feels like it is a natural, essential part of my life away.

Multiplicity of entries

Would you believe that this is the third simultaneous window I have open for entering text onto the site? I have so many things to say, and I very nearly went to bed without finishing them. One of them has been begun since last night before I went to bed, because I knew I had to wake up in the morning. I don’t have to wake up tomorrow morning. I have no plans. I guess I could work on the lawns some more, maybe clean up around the house, go out and see some movies, whatever, but I certainly don’t have to do it in the morning. I can stay up writing as long as I want.

This presents me with an interesting conundrum. Certainly this post will be done soon, and show up as a Friday entry, but will I be able to finish either of the other two active entries in the next 13 and a half minutes, or will they show up as Saturday entries? Does it matter? If they were intended to be coherent, they would be in the same post, right?

I suppose everything will work out fine in the end.

Expiration of messages and ideas

So, the original post about the painting on the TV is more than 5 days old. I can’t go post another comment on it. After 5 days, the messages disappear from the front page and no longer allow new comments. Sometimes I want to make comments after five days, but I know you’re not going to scroll down and see if there are new comments, let alone remember how many comments each thing had the last time you looked.

So instead of placing a comment no one would see on a post that no one remembers, I have to post a new message about the status of the painting I was doing on the TV.
