iChat with me

So one of the exciting new features of the new version of OS X that I just bought is that it has a built-in, Apple-designed chat client. Now, this chat client works over the AIM network, but I get to use my existing .mac account name. Problem is, I only ever used MSN IM before, so I don’t know anyone’s AIM names. I have this powerful new software for communicating with people, and an empty “buddy list”. I added my sister’s AIM name, but I’d like to add more. Maybe get an actual list going. So I’m inviting you, all of you who read this, to add me to your ‘buddy list’. From what I can tell, my AIM name is probably tmcclanahan@mac.com. I’d be glad to hear from you. Especially if I’ve never heard from you before.

  1. Well, the other way we can do this is you email me YOUR AIM screen name and I add you to my buddy list and then you tell me what my screen name comes up as.

  4. fierinferno is my screen name, just hit add buddy and put that in. Im me whenever you get around to it, I won’t be able to add you to my buddy list until I log on from home again, this is some crappy express version.

  7. Here’s a direct quote from one of the developers of Jaguar, explaining iChat:

“…You can use your existing AIM screen name or your mac.com address – by the way, you need to let your Windows friends know that they must upgrade to the latest AIM client in order chat with mac.com members. The update allows you to enter screen names with @ symbols.”

My screen name IS tmcclanahan@mac.com, and if it won’t let you enter that, you need to update your AIM client.

  9. Doesn’t matter much to me now, can’t load chat at work, probably can’t surf or post much anymore either.

  11. iChat is awesome. Craigi (my coach) and I will sit here and play with it at work for hours on end. I like changing my buddy icon on my Win2K machine to see what it looks like in iChat on the PowerBook.

I have officially added you to my AIM list… Now to see if you ever actually log on at a time I’m on…

  13. of course not. I would never log on when you were on. That might result in actual direct communication between the two of us, which hasn’t occurred in years. Heck, not since 1999 by my reckoning. Then again, I’m not so good at the reckoning.
